UPDATE: For a second time in the game, Vladar has been crashed. This time by Flames defenceman MacKenzie Weegar. Vladar once again slow to get up. The Flames backup followed that up a minute later with a sprawling pad save on a 2-on-1.

With less than two hours before game time, the organization announced that starter Jacob Markstrom would not be available to play due to the flu. Dustin Wolf was unavailable for a call up given that the lineup submissions deadline had come and gone at 5:00 pm. As a result, Dustin Nickel had been signed to an amateur tryout agreement and was promptly announced as backup to Daniel Vladar. “Dusty” Nichol, 32, played hockey with the Calgary Canucks as well as for Mount Royal.

Jump forward to 2:35 of the first period. Vegas winger William Carrier flies backwards into Vladar. Thankfully, Daniel was able to continue after taking a moment to get to his feet.

following a power play on the goaltender interference call, AJ Greer pulled Carrier aside for a “chat”. The Vegas grinder opted out of any further truculence.

Stay tuned for updates.
