Pospisil Worlds Flames

It’s been roughly 23 days since Flames fans have had the pleasure of watching rookie Martin Pospisil wreaking havoc on NHL ice. The edgy Slovakian had an assist and six penalty minutes on April 18 while playing 13:40 in ice time.

Pospisil finished the season with 238 hits, good for 13th in the NHL, to go with eight goals and 16 assists for 24 points in 63 games.

In a season where the Flames finished an underwhelming 24th place, Pospisil’s antics were a frequent reason to tune in.

Expletive warning.

Pospisil Things

For those looking for something to hold you over, you’re in luck. The 24-year-old from Zloven is plying his trade at the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship in Czechia. Martin contributed an assist, four penalty minutes, and several teaspoons of chaos on Friday as Germany dropped Slovakia 6-4.

While Deutschland took the win, Pospisil was sure to take his pound of flesh in the process. Per Steven Ellis:

A knee-slapping sequence. Pospisil ended the game in possibly the most Pospisilian fashion possible. Say that ten times fast.

To those saying that Martin is just a goon, here is his assist on Slovakia’s second goal.

Martin spoke to Aaron Vickers of calgaryflames.com following the game.

“It means a lot. Representing your country and your hometown, where I grew up, it’s very special. I was enjoying the whole game.”

Team Slovakia plays next on Saturday at 12:20 p.m. against former Flames prospect Mattias Emilio Pettersen and Team Norway.
