Daily Scan: Top NHL trade bait, could Flames reunite with Giordano?

Calgary Flames Mark Giordano

It wouldn’t be Christmas without an NHL trade bait list from TSN. No Calgary Flames are on it, but there might be a few guys GM Brad Treliving has at least mild interest in. Could one of them be former Flames captain Mark Giordano? Meanwhile, the Arizona Coyotes were threatened with being locked out of their arena next week. Seriously.

The Flames lost Giordano in the Seattle expansion draft but the team has rallied in his absence. The Kraken made him the franchise’s first captain so an extension is certainly possible, but he could fetch a high price on the trade market. The way things have gone for the Flames so far, it’s hard to imagine a reunion, but if he really hits the market, you have to think they’d ask price.

Giordano has three goals and seven points in 19 games with Seattle so far. If the Flames can make the money work with other transactions, you have to think he’d be an upgrade even if the team didn’t want to mess with the top four.

The Flames are looking to use December to re-establish their home identity. The Dome would be rocking if he ever returned.

Oh Canada! Canada Hockey Now

Vancouver: Don’t look now but the Canucks beat the Bruins and are looking … good(!) … under Bruce Boudreau. Looks like they’re having some fun.

Toronto: Here’s a shocker. Scott Cullen from THN says the NHL actually got the Jason Spezza suspension right. We knew there was a voice of reason in Toronto.

Montreal: Goaltender Carey Price put on goalie gear for the first time in his gradual return for the Canadiens. His activity is ramping up as the Olympic deadline looms for Team Canada selection.

NHL Trade Chatter, News & National Hockey Now

TSN: One former Calgary Flames captain is on the list. Is there a world where the Flames reunite with Mark Giordano? Enjoy the first NHL trade-bait board of the season.

NYI: Hockey Now colleague Christian Arnold cited Daren Dreger’s interview with TSN 1200 and it looks like the New York Islanders could be browsing the NHL trade market for help.

Hockey News: The Dallas Stars have a loaded crease. Ben Bishop has defied the odds, and he’ll begin a rehab assignment in the AHL. That means a trade is more likely, sooner than later.

AZ Central: The Coyotes situation is interesting. They didn’t deny they were threatened with being locked out of their house until they paid bills, but late Wednesday night, the team claimed it was simply human error. That’s a pretty big error.

Vegas: Uh oh. It’s never a good sign when the locals are cheering when a starting goalie is pulled. Is Robin Lehner on thin ice with the Golden Knights right now?

Pittsburgh: If the Penguins didn’t have bad luck, they’d have none at all. It’s bad news for the red hot Jake Guentzel and Bryan Rust.
