Calgary Flames Daily pospisil mangiapane

The Calgary Flames are back at it tonight in what should be a hard-fought battle with the John Torterella-led, dark horse Philidelphia Flyers. The Flames are coming into the evening on a two-game losing streak after dropping games to the LA Kings and the Seattle Kraken.

Philidelphia is also coming into the game fresh off a loss to Seattle. The two teams faced off on Friday in what resulted in a 2-1 Kraken overtime victory. Former Edmonton Oiler Justin Schultz sealed the game in the 3v3 format.

With both teams tonight having scored only one goal apiece in their previous game, expect some lunch pail hockey as the two groups look to get their offence up and running.

Calgary Flames (14-16-5, 33 pts) vs Philidelphia Flyers (19-11-5, 43 pts)

Calgary Flames Notes

The Bad News

Passed by Edmonton last night, the Flames are rapidly losing ground in the standings. Calgary currently sits in 27th-place league-wide and leads only Anaheim, Chicago, and San Jose in the Western Conference.

The Good News

While many among this Flames group may be struggling, two former New Jersey Devils have shone through the gloom of what appears to be a bottom 10 season. Yegor Sharangovich and Blake Coleman lead the Flames in scoring with 12 and 11 points apiece through 12 December games. The two have combined for 12 goals scored and five of those have been recorded while killing a penalty. No stranger to striking unexpectedly, per Jon Bailey of Philly Hockey Now, the Flyers lead the league in shorthanded goals with nine.

Making His Mark

Jacob Markstrom has had an eccentric month. Returning only 13 days after fracturing his finger in practice, the 33-year-old Swede came back rested and ready to keep games close in scoring. The 6-foot-6 netminder has a .925 save percentage and a lean 2.04 goals against average in five appearances this month.
