The Daily: Flames Fortunes, Perry’s Nuggets Tender After DeAngelo Spear

The Calgary Flames are showing signs of heating up, led by goaltender Jacob Markstrom. Meanwhile, Flyers defenceman Tony DeAngelo stuck his stick where the sun doesn’t shine on Corey Perry.

The Calgary Flames woke up four points out of a playoff spot in the Western Conference after winning both games against strong Central Division opponents on back-to-back nights in different cities. Jacob Markstrom looks reborn and Tyler Toffoli scored both deciding goals. Will they be able to keep that momentum going? Meanwhile, Corey Perry looks like a saint beside Tony DeAngelo and the Philadelphia Flyers defenceman took that notion to the next level by spearing the Tampa Bay Lightning pest in the privates. And is Columbus angry that the Boston Bruins left them in the lurch on a potential GAvrikov trade?

That and more in the CHN Daily links:

Calgary Flames

Guess who's back? Jacob Markstrom is back in Vezina form. Is it too late or just in time for the Calgary Flames playoff hopes?

On back-to-back nights when the Flames needed a clutch goal, Tyler Toffoli was there to provide it. Two straight wins. One in Minny in a shootout and the other clock-beater in Dallas

His second game with the Flames wasn't nearly as good but is Nick Ritchie the kind of winger Jonathan Huberdeau needs?

NHL News, & National Hockey Now

Vegas Hockey Now: With the trade deadline over, the Western Conference seems wide open and the Golden Knights could take advantage.

San Jose Hockey Now: Maybe he's angry he didn't get traded to a contender. Erik Karlsson threw his helmet en route to being ejected in game against the Colorado Avalanche. San Jose Sharks fit.

NYI Hockey Now: It was first ruled no goal. Then, it was good. It was the game-winner, and I suppose the Islanders helped the Penguins by beating the Buffalo Sabres. The New York Islanders win.

Sportsnet: Buffalo coach Don Granato (who has done an incredible job since taking over) was shocked at the overturned call. I’m not sure if the Buffalo Sabres boss or Minnesota Wild coach Dean Evason was more expressive after the Wild overtime goal against the Calgary Flames was overturned on Tuesday.

Ottawa Sun: The Ottawa Senators were off Tuesday after getting embarrassed by the Chicago Blackhawks. But the bidding war has officially begun to own the Senators. Is Ryan buyin'? They're in town to face the Calgary Flames this week.

Florida Hockey Now: Florida kept pace with the Penguins. They sneaked past Vegas for two points with a big helping of Sergei Bobrovsky.

Washington Hockey Now: A little Capitals trade and free agency chatter. GM Brian McClellan says they want to add a top-six winger this summer. More on the Washington Capitals plans.

Boston Hockey Now: Did Don Sweeney leave Columbus hanging in trade talks for Vladislav Gavrikov? That report won’t go away. Here’s the Boston Bruins scoop.

Philly Hockey Now: I suspect Tony DeAngelo will get a call from the league today. It was a pretty aggressive cup check. It was a major and a misconduct for the Philly Flyers d-man.

Montreal Hockey Now: They couldn't train him because of another injury, but ex-Calgary Flames centre Sean Monahan is a name to keep an eye on this offseason. Because he missed most of the season, he’ll be eligible for an incentive-laden contract. Will the Montreal Canadiens consider it?

And finally:

NHL.com: We’ll end with Trevor Zegras’ goal. The kid's amazing. I've seen this from former Calgary Flames star Matthew Tkachuk in a clutch situation before, but Zegras just makes it all seem so effortless.
