Calgary Flames head coach Darryl Sutter says his team is middle-of-the-pack in the NHL after a loss to Cup champ Colorado. Meanwhile, the hockey world comes down on Ivan Provorov after his slight.

Calgary Flames head coach Darryl Sutter said his team is middle-of-the-pack. He's right. The Flames are going to be in a battle for a wildcard spot all season unless they find an extra gear or make an important trade in the coming weeks. The hockey world came down on Flyers defenceman Ivan Provorov, the Columbus Blue Jackets will be getting a lot of calls for their rental players before the NHL trade deadline, the Boston Bruins have an interest in Bo Horvat, Steve Stamkos scored his 500th goal and added a couple more for kicks.

The 2022-23 NHL season is probably the worst year to be a seller on the trade market with cap space at a premium and the depth of the first round in the upcoming draft.

Calgary Flames

Darryl Sutter said the Calgary Flames are still in a "show-me" phase. What they're showing is mediocrity. A loss to the defending Cup champion Colorado Avalanche was more evidence that this team is far from elite

Colorado Hockey Now: No Cale Makar? No problem for the Colorado Avalanche over the Calgary Flames on Wednesday — a view from the other side.

NHL Trade, News & National Hockey Now:

Boston Hockey Now: Jim Rutherford will trade Bo Horvat soon. A well-placed source confirmed to Jimmy Murphy that there is interest (and talks) from the Boston Bruins.

The Bruins are really shopping. They have one more shot with Patrice Bergeron, and it appears they’re all in. Luke Schenn is also on the radar before the NHL trade deadline.

Columbus Dispatch: The Blue Jackets have a few high-value rental players. GM Jarmo Kekkalainen could (should be) be getting a lot of calls before the NHL trade deadline.

TSN: With the win over the Penguins, the Ottawa Senators are seven points behind a playoff spot. They are a young and up-and-coming team. Should the Senators become buyers at the deadline?

The news has been dominated by the Ivan Provorov situation in Philly. Not just hockey news, either. Both sides of this argument are angry. The hockey world came down on Provorov.

Philly Hockey Now: The fallout from the Provorov incident isn’t going away anytime soon.

Washington Hockey Now: Jean-Gabriel Pageau let it be known how he felt about the headshot he took from Washington Capitals captain Alexander Ovechkin.

Detroit Hockey Now: The Detroit Red Wings are using the NHL trade market – and more specifically, the AHL, to pave a way back to the NHL for Jakub Vrana.

Vegas Hockey Now: Vegas Golden Knights centre and North Chelmsford, MA native Jack Eichel opened up about his recent struggles on the ice.

San Jose Hockey Now: Just when you think the San Jose Sharks are tanking for Bedard, they pull off a crazy comeback and upset.

Montreal Hockey Now: Our man in Montreal, Marco D’Amico, takes a look at the top suitors in the NHL trade sweepstakes for Montreal Canadiens defenceman Joel Edmundson.

Sportsnet: Tampa Bay Lightning captain Steven Stamkos scored his 500th career goal on Wednesday night in Vancouver. Then he added two more to make it even more special. The Calgary Flames' next opponent is coming in hot.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Pittsburgh Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan was not happy the Zebras after a 5-4 loss to the Ottawa Senators on Wednesday night.
