The Daily: Flames Struggles, Provorov Fallout

Calgary Flames head coach Darryl Sutter said his team is middle-of-the-pack. He's right. The Flames are going to be in a battle for a wildcard spot all season unless they find an extra gear or make an important trade in the coming weeks. The hockey world came down on Flyers defenceman Ivan Provorov, the Columbus Blue Jackets will be getting a lot of calls for their rental players before the NHL trade deadline, the Boston Bruins have an interest in Bo Horvat, Steve Stamkos scored his 500th goal and added a couple more for kicks. 

The 2022-23 NHL season is probably the worst year to be a seller on the trade market with cap space at a premium and the depth of the first round in the upcoming draft. 

Calgary Flames

Darryl Sutter said the Calgary Flames are still in a "show-me" phase. What they're showing is mediocrity. A loss to the defending Cup champion Colorado Avalanche was more evidence that this team is far from elite.

NHL Trade, News & National Hockey Now:

Boston Hockey Now: Jim Rutherford will trade Bo Horvat soon. A well-placed source confirmed to Jimmy Murphy that there is interest (and talks) from the Boston Bruins.

The Bruins are really shopping. They have one more shot with Patrice Bergeron, and it appears they’re all in. Luke Schenn is also on the radar before the NHL trade deadline.

Columbus Dispatch: The Blue Jackets have a few high-value rental players. GM Jarmo Kekkalainen could (should be) be getting a lot of calls before the NHL trade deadline.

TSN: With the win over the Penguins, the Ottawa Senators are seven points behind a playoff spot. They are a young and up-and-coming team. Should the Senators become buyers at the deadline?
