The Daily: Coleman’s Night with Flames, Monahan to Avalanche?

Blake Coleman had a night in his 400th NHL game and former Calgary Flames star Sean Monahan might be a target for a team rival on the NHL trade market.

It was quite a win for the Calgary Flames in Philly. The 5-2 score doesn't illustrate the fight put up by the Flyers and goaltender Carter Hart. Speaking of heart (bad segue alert), Sean Monahan is putting up strong underlying numbers in Montreal and has become a talking point for NHL trade rumours.

More in today's CHN Daily.

Boy, did Blake Coleman ever have himself a night. Three points, including his third goal of the season, during his 400th NHL game. Some love for the Lone Star State product.

It wasn't perfect, but the Flames absorbed the push-back effort from the wounded Flyers and managed to close with a couple of empty net goals. Just the details of the 5-2 win

There's been a lot of trade talk, including a report the Colorado Avalanche may be eying former Calgary Flames centre Sean Monahan, who has been really good for the Montreal Canadiens.

NHL Trade Talk, News & National Hockey Now:

Sportsnet: Elliotte Friedman didn’t have specifics on his 32 Thoughts podcast, but Pittsburgh Penguins GM Ron Hextall is trying to find a trade partner. Friedman reiterated that “the Pittsburgh Penguins are looking into things.” Jeff Marek and Friedman also enjoyed the Evgeni Malkin tributes. Here’s the full 32 Thoughts podcast.

TSN: Could the New Jersey Devils be any hotter? They eviscerated the Edmonton Oilers on Monday night for their 13th win — yes, 13th — in a row. TSN examines, are the Devils elite?

Philly Hockey Now: There’s a mess in Philly. The Philadelphia Flyers lost their seventh straight game … to the Calgary Flames.

Vegas Hockey Now: The third line was benched, a controversial no-goal and the Golden Knights finally lost.

Boston Hockey Now: It seems like he should have gotten there a while ago, but, Patrice Bergeron hit the 1,000-game mark the same night Calgary Flames winger Blake Coleman hit 400.

Washington Hockey Now: Sammi Silber is one of the few on the Capitals beat who works the locker-room and talks to the players for informed, intelligent stories. She reports bad vibes are growing in D.C. Frustration is mounting as losses pile up for the Washington Capitals.

There’s a reason for all of the NHL trade rumours flying out of Washington. Things aren’t looking good unless Nick Backstrom can get healthy.

Montreal Hockey Now: There's lots of talk about injecting youth in the Calgary Flames lineup, and both sides could point to the Montreal Canadiens first-overall pick Juraj Slafkovsky learning the ropes of the NHL on the fourth line this season in their argument for or against. But Slafkovsky could be seeing his ice time increase this week.

NYI Hockey Now: Cal Clutterbuck is now the NHL’s all-time hits leader. He and Stefen Rosner had a locker-room chat (sometimes those are the best). Clutterbuck had a simple philosophy, “Be the hunter, not the hunted.” More from the New York Islanders' happy room.

The Islanders beat Toronto. They needed a third period rally before Anthony Beauvillier’s OT dagger was the winner for the Islanders.
