Matthew Tkachuk Reportedly Not Interested In A Long Term Deal Or The Flames

And the offseason carnage continues.

Well, it appears the offseason's other shoe is about to drop for the Calgary Flames. The Score NHL Twitter account is reporting that Matthew Tkachuk has told the Flames he won't sign a long term deal with the team, which basically means the Matthew Tkachuk Era is over.

Once Johnny Gaudreau walked from Calgary it was assumed that Matthew Tkachuk would be right behind him and that appears to be the most likely scenario now. According to the article, Tkachuk has listed the St. Louis BluesVegas Golden KnightsFlorida PanthersNashville Predators, and Dallas Stars as teams he would be interested in signing a long term contract with. The Blues are a team that he's been linked to based in the fact that his father Keith Tkachuk played there, but that's just all speculation right now.

With Matthew Tkachuk telling the Flames "thanks, but no thanks," it's only a matter of time before he's dealt out of Calgary and another American born star walks away from the Flames. The difference is with Tkachuk the Flames can get something in return, as opposed to Johnny Gaudreau who just walked. The downside for Calgary is teams know he doesn't want to return to the Flames so the value they get in return won't be all that it should be.

What a start to the summer. Stay tuned.
