Daily Scan: Flames fall, other Tkachuk bit, chaos in Montreal

A lot went down in the NHL Saturday night. The Calgary Flames outshot the Winnipeg Jets but lost late in the third period. Brendan Lemieux bit Brady Tkachuk, teams are trying to pull John Klingberg onto the NHL trade market, and chaos reigns in the Montreal Canadiens organization.

Meanwhile, the Ottawa Senators waived Matt Murray. And in a shocker of all NHL trade rumour shockers: Larry Brooks reports an Eastern Conference team is interested in Evander Kane.

About that bite. Brady Tkachuk went off on Lemieux and big brother Matthew was equally disgusted. He told CBC on After Hours that the bite was “little kid sh!t.”

Matthew’s Calgary Flames play the Kings in Los Angeles on Thursday but it’s unlikely Lemieux will be in the lineup. The Flames should find out whether Milan Lucic will face any further discipline for his major boarding penalty in the next 24 hours as well.

NHL trade chatter and news

Montreal: Reports say GM Marc Bergevin found out on Twitter that (close Bergevin ally) assistant GM Scott Mellanby resigned, the owner is replacing Bergevin, and all hell broke loose in Montreal.

San Jose: NHL trade rumors are buzzing–An Eastern Conference team is genuinely interested in Evander Kane?

Sportsnet: Under the radar because of the Saturday night insanity, the Carolina Hurricanes and others are calling the Dallas Stars about John Klingberg, but Dallas might be forced into it but is resisting putting Klingberg on the NHL trade block.

TSN: “Enjoy your suspension,” “Gutless,” “This guy is a joke…”  Brady Tkachuk went off after Brendan Lemieux bit him Saturday night.

Ottawa Sun: The Ottawa Senators, as reported, waived Murray on Saturday. Bruce Garrioch reports he will report to Belleville of the AHL if he clears waivers, though Murray isn’t pleased.

From Stanley Cups to the NHL trade block to the AHL. It’s been a ride for Matt Murray.

National Hockey Now

Vegas: The Golden Knights didn’t do the Calgary Flames any favours. They dropped a Saturday night decision to … Mikko Koskinen.

NYI: The New York Islanders had more players land in the COVID protocol, and the NHL paused their season until Nov. 30.

Washington: Capitals centre Lars Eller had to quarantine in Anaheim after testing positive. Eller said he did everything he could to stay sane, but it wasn’t easy.
