The Daily Scan: Flames won’t face Caufield, more Fleury trade rumours

Calgary Flames San Jose Sharks

I never would have imagined that Cole Caufield would be in the American Hockey League when the Calgary Flames first landed in Montreal for a game against the Canadiens this year. But that’s the reality after the Habs got off to a terrible start and look like a team in total disarray. Speaking of disarray, Marc-Andre Fleury has had quite a ride since Vegas Golden Knights owner Bill Foley slid that sword into his back and sent him to the Chicago Blackhawks. The Blackhawks thought they would be competitive – but not just on the NHL trade market. That’s their reality now.

The Blackhawks are now teetering on a rebuild, and NHL trade rumours are increasingly linking Fleury to another move.

Before moving on completely from the Calgary Flames loss to the Sharks, here’s a view from the other side. Via San Jose Hockey Now.

Oh, Canada!

Montreal: While Cole Caufield is getting trolled on social media by other teams in the AHL, the Canadiens called up two kids not named Caufield. Ryan Poehling will get to play his first NHL game in 646 days with the Calgary Flames in town.

Vancouver: Rob Simpson is tracking former Calgary Flames defenceman Travis Hamonic’s vaccination status.

Toronto: Jack Campbell and William Nylander powered the Leafs to a 3-0 win in Philadelphia. Still not sure if this Leafs team is good or not.

NHL Trade Chatter, News & National Hockey Now

Yardbarker: First Elliotte Friedman, then Chris Johnston of the Toronto Star stirred the NHL trade rumors and connected Marc-Andre Fleury to the Edmonton Oilers. That would not be an ideal situation for the Calgary Flames.

If Chicago doesn’t turn things around quickly, there will be a million rumours.

Colorado: Nathan MacKinnon is out for three weeks with an lower body injury. A tough start to the season just got a lot tougher for the Avalanche.

Sportsnet: GM Bob Murray resigned from his post and entered an alcohol abuse program. He was under internal investigation.

NYI: The Calgary Flames visit the New York Islanders’ next week, but they’re already facing an official complaint about their brand new arena. They failed to plan for handicap parking. Instead, their layout forces those who need access to ride a shuttle. Oops, I bet that will change.

Florida: Panthers rookie goaltender Spencer Knight has hit a rough patch but the team is still confident.

Let’s finish with some fun …

Washington: “When you hungry, you hungry,” said Capitals captain and occasional pizza delivery man Alex Ovechkin while delivering Papa John’s pizza to media in full uni and skates.

ESPN: The Mouseketeers rated all 32 teams and the most underrated player on each team.
