The Calgary Flames coming in hot in an afternoon matchup in Washington against the Capitals. Andrew Mangiapane first to strike for the Flames, able to flip the puck up and over Capitals starting goaltender Vitek Vanecek for the power-play goal.

Elias Lindholm doing all kinds of magic. Scores two goals for the Flames about six minutes apart, the second goal a short-handed one, as Lindholm out hustles Capitals’ defensemen Carlson.

The Flames able to kill off two 1st period penalties, and head off for the 1st intermission with a 3-0 lead over the Capitals.

After hitting the post at the start of the game on a near break away, Kuznetsov would put the Capitals on the scoreboard with a short-handed goal minutes into the 2nd period. Kuznetsov stripping Johnny Gaudreau of the puck, and scoring five hole.

Flames defense falling back and leaving too much room for Capitals’ Fehervary, who scores his first goal of the season, getting Washington within one with over half a game left to play.

The Flames with a give away late in the 2nd, to none other than Alexander the Great, who doesn’t miss a stride in scoring the 3rd goal of the game for the Capitals.

Capitals catch the Flames flat footed in the 2nd. Flames starting goaltender Dan Vladar, playing in his first NHL game this season with the Flames, lets in 3 of 8 shots in the 2nd period. Washington extinguishing the Flames 3-goal lead and tying the game 3-3 before the 2nd intermission.

No scoring in the 3rd period would take this match up into Overtime for some 3-on-3 hockey, with lots of ice to play.

The game-winning goal would come in OT from hot hand Elias Lindholm, and the Calgary Flames would take this one with a 4-3 win over the Washington Capitals.

Vladar would make 22 saves on 25 shots for the Flames. Capitals’ Vanecek would let in 3 goals on 13 shots in the first period, before he is relieved by Samsonov who would make 13 saves on 14 shots in the 42 minutes that he played.
