Mavericks: Fresh Start!

Flames ECHL Affiliate Stumbles Out Of The Gate

As with most sports events of 2019-20, logistical challenges shuffled things around and made getting back to work difficult, but the ECHL kicked off in December and we’ve got an update on the Flames’ affiliate Kansas City Mavericks!

The Mavs officially opened the scoring league-wide on December the 11th, kicking things off on a high note with an SHG! But as we’ll see below, that momentum hasn’t much carried over so far.

The Mavs have gone on to open the season with three straight losses, although they picked up the extra point in their first two against Indy and grabbed their first W in their 4th contest. That was against Mountain Division opponent Tulsa, so that’s a good way to make up for lost time. So far they’ve got four of a possible eight points to start the season, settling them in fourth place.

Dec 11th– KC Mavericks 3 @ Indy Fuel 4 –LOSS (SO)

Dec 18th- KC Mavericks 3 vs Indy Fuel 4 –LOSS (OT)

Dec 26th- KC Mavericks 1 vs Wichita Thunder 3 – LOSS

Dec 31st- KC Mavericks 4 vs Tulsa Oilers 1 -WIN

In a small sample size, Giorgio Estephan is leading the scoring charge so far. He’s got five points and has played in all four games. We’re looking at a three way tie for goals at the moment, and an early lead for Ross Olsson in PIMs as he currently sits on 9.

Not much to report on the goalie side only four games in, either. None of the Flames usual current netminding prospects are seeing time down below.

The season will really kick into high gear in the next couple weeks, as all seven of KC’s games in the next two weeks will be played within the Mountain Division. Five games will be on the road after finishing out a four game home stint. The Mavs will see the Tulsa Oilers, Wichita Thunder, and Utah Grizzlies over the next two-week span. It’ll be a good test and start to show where the division stands!
