Calgary Inferno Fired Up After Clarkson Cup Win

The Calgary Inferno are this years Clarkson Cup winners!

There was a lot of emotion on the Inferno bench as the CWHL Calgary Inferno won the Clarkson Cup.

The first period set a good pace to a fast period. The Inferno came on strong and Rebecca Johnston opened the scoring not even 3 minutes into the game. Hayley Wickenheiser proves again and again that she can take a beating and keep on ticking as a collision on neutral ice saw bodies flying everywhere. During an Inferno penalty, Les Canadiennes evened the score. Luckily no more goals were scored during another Inferno penalty. Instead, the Calgary team answered back with a powerplay goal of their own and the score was 2-1 in favour of the Inferno to end the first 20 minutes.

Les Canadiennes put pressure on the Inferno net to start the middle frame. But as usually happens, the pressure let up momentarily and the Inferno capitalized with another goal. It was 3-1 for Calgary. A few minutes later, Calgary's Turnbull undressed the Montreal defense for another goal, putting the Inferno up 4-1. Les Canadiennes did manage to get one back, but the ref called off the goal due to goalie interference. With one more try, Montreal finally got one back and the score was 4-2 in favour of the Inferno. 23 seconds would be all the time allowed for Mobtreal to be within 2 goals as another Inferno goal would end the period by a score of 5-2 for Calgary.

The Inferno are nothing if not consistent. They started out strong in the final 20 minutes. With another Montreal penalty, Calgary capitalized again to put them up 6-2. And another goal would put them up 7-2. Les Canadiennes weren't done yet though and they notched another goal to shrink the gap, 7-3. An amazing save by Inferno's goalie, Brian, kept the Calgary team ahead by 4 goals. Even a couple of late powerplays for Montreal couldn't help them out. With an empty-net goal and a 8-3 score, the Calgary Inferno are this years Clarkson Cup winners!

Congrats to all Calgary Inferno players and staff!
