Flames acquire goalie Kevin Poulin from Tampa Bay

A trade with the Lightning, but not the one speculated.

The Flames are in Tampa Bay tonight, hoping to do the business on-ice, but have also done some behind the scenes too.

They have traded “future considerations” to obtain netminder Kevin Poulin from the Lightning.

A native of Montreal, the 25-year-old was drafted in the fifth round by the New York Islanders in 2008, playing 50 NHL games with a 89.9% save percentage and a GAA of 3.07, with a record of 18-25-3. He only played one game in the NHL last year, spending most of the year in the AHL with Bridgeport. where he managed to accrue 23 penalty minutes.

He was claimed by the Lightning from waivers at the start of the season, but did not play for the Lightning, nor their AHL affiliate in Syracuse. He'll report to Stockton upon arrival.

No official word on what the "future considerations" are, but they'll likely be a low-end draft pick.

Not the blockbuster trade the Flames were rumoured to be trying to make with Tampa, but a trade nonetheless. Welcome aboard.
