Flames recall Tyler Wotherspoon, activate Ramo, and other news

The Flames made a few announcements around lunch time indicating some line-up changes and to vote for Johnny Gaudreau in the breakway competition at the NHL All-Star game.

Let’s start with the great news: Tyler Wotherspoon has been recalled from the Adirondack Flames (AHL) as the Flames announced Ladislav Smid is heading back to the IR. Wotherspoon played 14 games in the 2013-2014 season registering four assists and four PIMs. This season he’s had a relatively quiet campaign in his second season in the AHL. He’s registered two goals, 13 assists, and 12 PIMs in 38 games for the Baby Flames.

With the injury to Smid, and the semi-questionable love for Raphael Diaz it’s highly possible we’ll see Diaz or Wotherspoon play against Anaheim tomorrow night. A collective sigh of relief is made as we MAY see how much more his game has matured since last season. RIP LADI SMID.

Karri Ramo has been activated as well and the Flames didn’t announce that Joni Ortio has been sent down. Presumably furthering trade speculation or they’ll make a decision after the Anaheim game tomorrow. Ortio has played phenomenally since his call up posting a 4-0-0 record, .958 SV%, and a 1.23 GAA. His play of late, perfect hair, and be the reincarnation of Miikka Kiprusoff has everyone captivated.

Calgary also announced that Drew Shore would be sent down to Adiondack, presumably due to his waiver status (one game remaining at the NHL level). He was also selected to play in the AHL All-Star game which takes place in Utica starting on Sunday the 25th.

Keeping with the All-Star news…

So it appears we may get a chance to see Johnny Gaudreau locked in or at least potentially in the breakaway challenge. So you should probably vote for him because it’s the right thing to do. He was selected to be a part of the skills competition along with a gaggle of other talented people.
