Jarome Iginla to Boston Now Official, Details to Come

Minutes ago TSN's Aaron Ward confirmed what increasingly seemed to be the inevitable for the Calgary Flames and their fans–after a decade and a half with the organization, Jarome Iginla was no longer a Flame.

At this point we all likely knew this day was coming, but that doesn’t make it sting any less. After news broke that Jarome Iginla would be a healthy scratch for tonight’s game against the Colorado Avalanche, details started flowing fast and furious about who was still in the running, who would be included in the trade, and even the possibility of the Flames moving Jay Bouwmeester before most of the powers-that-be in the mainstream hockey media came to the conclusion that the Bruins were indeed Iggy’s final destination. The deal is thought to include a (potential) first round pick, Alexander Khokhlachev, Boston’s second round pick in the 2011 draft, and 2008 Florida Panthers pick defenceman Matt Bartkowski, but as per Bob Mckenzie, nothing has been confirmed as of yet:

Unconfirmed but BOS-CGY appears to be Khokhlachev/Bartkowski/conditional 1st round pick for Iginla. 1st rder conditional on Iggy re-signing.
— Bob McKenzie (@TSNBobMcKenzie) March 28, 2013

Here's the kicker: the Boston first-rounder might be conditional on Iginla re-signing with the Bruins. We could find out if that's true or not before the night is out.

Regardless, I think I speak for everyone here when I say: Thank you Iggy, and more than anything else hockey-related in this world, I hope the Boston Bruins are the 2013 Stanley Cup champs.

More to come.
