Wednesday’s Hot Coals: The Really Depressing Edition

In what can only be called “The hockey gods continuing to hate Calgary and Edmonton fans”, the Vancouver Canucks advanced to the Stanley Cup finals in double overtime. It’s depressing. And through that, I think we should all take a moment to remember what the great Messier accomplished against the Canucks in 1994, and what he accomplished for them later (hint: it rhymes with shmabsolutely shmothing). Anyways, the links!

  • Through the despair and gloom that is the Canucks going to the Stanley Cup finals, Pat Steinberg gives us reasons to keep on living with “highlights” in Canucks and Oilers history to cheer us up. And by highlights I mean moments of shame. [Flamesnation]
  • For those feeling somewhat more pleasant about the whole thing, stop by fellow SBN blog Nucks Misconduct and congratulate them. [Nucks Misconduct]
  • Apparently Kevin Bieksa’s 2OT GWG was something of a statistical oddity- who knew? (Scroll down) [Elias]
  • In the Good News column today: The MAXWELL DEMON and Co. stayed alive in the Memorial Cup last night with a 5-4 OT win against the Saint John Sea Dogs of the QMJHL. [Y! Sports]
  • Today’s non-hockey link: apparently commercial airliners are just like slave ships. Wow. Depressing. [Gawker]
