SUMMARY:

When we last checked in with Kansas City, the team had come flying out of the gate to kick off the 2018-19 season. The Mavs won 5 of their first 7 contests and collected points in 6 of those games, and have since kept that momentum rolling. Extending their win streak to seven straight before dropping their most recent game to the Wichita Thunder, theyโ€™ve now won 12 of their 15 games played still havenโ€™t lost on home ice at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena. The ECHL realigned their divisions this year, so the Mavericks have now moved into the Mountain Division from the Central, and find themselves in a tie for the division lead so far.

GAME BY GAME:

NOV 6: KC Mavericks 4 vs Allen Americans 1- WIN

NOV 9: KC Mavericks 5 @ Allen Americans 3- WIN

NOV 10: KC Mavericks @ Allen Americans 3- WIN

NOV 13: KC Mavericks 5 vs Wichita Thunder 3- WIN

NOV 16: KC Mavericks 0 @ Wichita Thunder 4- LOSS

THE SQUAD:

Mark Cooper and and Jared Vanwormer continue to top the team in scoring, although Cooper has now jumped up into his familiar spot in first place over Vanwormer. Scoring 3 goals and 5 assists in the last 5 games, Coop has opened up a 3 point gap for first in team scoring. This puts him 5th overall in league scoring with 19, only three points back of division rival Utah Grizzliesโ€™ Caleb Herbert who sits at 21 for first place. Hereโ€™s a look at Kansas Cityโ€™s top point getters so far:

Flames prospect goaltender Mason McDonald has now reeled in 5 wins on 5 starts so far this season, raking in a 2.15 GAA and .920 SV% along the way.

UP NEXT:

The Mavs hit the road for 3 of their next 5, which will be somewhat of a test as their toughest games have been as the visiting team. Since theyโ€™ve only lost on the road to this point, itโ€™s always a wonder when that might start to catch up with them every time they pile onto the team bus. Check back with Matchsticks & Gasoline in two weeks to see how the Mavericks fared!
