The Calgary Flames host the nemesis Edmonton Oilers in the Battle of Alberta in a game that’s practically a must win (preferably in overtime or regulation) for the Flames. Calgary currently sits on the outside looking in at the playoffs and have just a 16.3 percent chance at the playoffs coming into tonight’s contest. With the Los Angeles Kings playing the lowly Arizona Coyotes and the Dallas Stars playing the surprisingly bad Montreal Canadiens, the Flames likely need the points just to keep up.
The Flames roster won’t be coming into this one at 100 percent in this one however as they’ll be without their top possession driver in Matthew Tkachuk. Tkachuk was injured when Dougie Hamilton checked Mathew Barzal into his legs in the third period of their frustrating five to two loss at the hands of the New York Islanders. Sam Bennett will take his spot on the left side of Mikael Backlund while Chris Stewart plays on the third line. Nick Shore is also coming in for Mark Jankowski who will be a healthy scratch.
Mike Smith will be back in net for the Flames. He’ll square off against Cam Talbot for the Oilers. Puck drop will be at 7:05 P.M. M.S.T.
