The Calgary Flames play the last game of the 2017 calendar year as they take on the Chicago Blackhawks. The year might be old, but the career of Andrew Mangiapane is just starting as he’ll make his first regular season NHL appearance as he plays on the fourth line with Matt Stajan and Troy Brouwer. Curtis Lazar gets the healthy scratch.
Mangiapane isn’t the only lineup change for the night. Brett Kulak will return to the lineup while Matt Bartkowski exits. There was zero reason for Bartkowski to play as he’s statistically one of the three worse defensemen in the league – count that one as a mistake by Glen Gulutzan.
Chicago would probably be favoured in this contest, but they’ll be without the services of Corey Crawford. Jeff Glass will make just his second career start at the age of 32. Mike Smith will be in net for the Flames. Hopefully the Flames offense can get it clicking against the journeyman goalie – this might be exactly what the Flames needed.
Puck drop will be at 7:05 P.M. M.S.T. It can be found on Sportsnet.
