Calgary Flames at Edmonton Oilers [Game 49]

It's the Battle of Alberta, but it feels a lot like both teams are just trying to make it to the All-Star break.

The Calgary Flames are back to the ice after last night’s loss to the Los Angeles Kings in overtime. The loss puts the Flames losing streak at three games, but they have points in all three games. They have yet to win a game since their bye week.

Tonight’s contest is the Battle of Alberta against the Edmonton Oilers. These Oilers aren’t good at all this year despite coming in as cup favourites to many and this would be a game where the Flames are normally favoured, particularly after they were blitzed five to nothing against the Buffalo Sabres. With that being said, the Oilers had the chance to rest while the Flames played last night and they’ve made the peculiar decision to dress Ryan Lomberg at the expense of Marek Hrivik and Andrew Mangiapane – having Lomberg, Curtis Lazar, and Troy Brouwer in the lineup is quite the handicap.

David Rittich will start tonight. He’ll have his work cut out for him – despite the Oilers record, they do a decent job of getting shots on goal. He’s up against Cam Talbot tonight.

Game time is at 7:05 P.M. M.S.T.
