Gaudreau and Flames Reportedly FAR Apart

According to a report released today the Flames and Johnny Gaudreau are far apart on money.

We all know Johnny Gaudreau is done negotiating……for now. Gaudreau has made it clear that once he got to Toronto for the WCOH that he would be focused solely on hockey, not his contract negotiations with the Flames. The Score tweeted this out this morning:

The link quotes Eric Francis of the Calgary Sun as saying:

If these reports are true and we all know how the back and forth between agent and team can go, that’s a fairly significant gap. This could just be an “aim high, settle in the middle” type deal, but the Flames also have to know that they are low balling the star forward. Whether these negotiations are contentious is only known by those behind the scenes, but as of right now both parties seem to be very far apart in what each wants. The Flames do hold a little more power in the negotiations because Gaudreau is a RFA.

The 23 year old Flames forward was recently voted #30 in the NHL Network’s Top 50 Players who are playing now. In 2 seasons (160 games) Gaudreau was poured in 55 goals and 88 assists. To compare, Sean Monahan played in 156 games in his first two seasons and tallied 53 goals and 43 assists. Gaudreau has also been voted to the NHL All Star Game in his first two seasons in the league.

When will we see the Flames and Gaudreau reach a contract agreement? If Gaudreau and his agent keep their word, it won’t be before the WCOH is finished.
