The Calgary Flames come out of this one with a win, despite being outshot 35-23 by the Dallas Stars. Cam Talbot holding fort and getting his 4th career playoff shutout. Luck on Talbot’s side early as Seguin hits the crossbar and Radulov misses the open net on the rebound to start the game.
The game would remain scoreless until Backlund’s short-handed goal in the second period.
Blake Comeau showing unsportsmanlike behaviour as he shatters glass with his stick, upset about fanning on his shot in the previous play. No penalty was handed out to the Stars, but instead the 2nd period would end 38.1 seconds early for glass repairs.
Both teams favoured fresh ice as the Stars started out with a PP on Brodie’s penalty — playing 38.1 seconds to the buzzer before restarting, with the clock set to 20 minutes officially into the 3rd period.
Luckily things went the Flames way, and it would be T.J. Brodie who would give his team a 2-goal lead with a slap shot through traffic and past Khudobin — Rinaldo and Ryan causing a ruckus around the Stars net.
Mikael Backlund had another good game, playing with an aggressive edge, getting his 3rd goal and 5th point of these playoffs.
Geoff Ward had some decisions to make with Tkachuk out of the lineup — in came Rinaldo and Quine. Quine getting an assist on Brodie’s goal and Rinaldo a +1 and front row seat while sitting in the penalty box for Backlund’s SHG.
Flame of the Game
Cam Talbot (G): Proving to be the no.1 goaltender for the Calgary Flames gets his second shutout during these playoffs. By the end of the 3rd period the shot attempts were 70-37 in favour of Dallas — Talbot making stops on all of Tyler Seguin’s scoring chances.
Game 4 of CGYvsDAL Round 1 Playoff series is on Sunday, August 16th @ 12pm MT at Rogers Place.
