Recap

Deja vu — Milan Lucic opens up the scoring, tipping a shot pass from Mikael Backlund into the goal with seconds left in the Flames power play. Soon after, the 4th line comes out — Rinaldo to Jankowski off the boards to Rieder — two goal lead for the Calgary Flames early in the game.

Zac Rinaldo finds himself along side Gaudreau and Monahan — in the right place at the right time, scoring his 3rd goal of the season, second point in the game early in the first period.

The Flames lead would be cut back to 2 with a goal by Erik Karlsson – flutter puck getting past Rittich some how. The first 20 minutes ending with a score of 3-1 for the Flames.

Brent Burns blasts one from the point — past traffic in front of the Flames net, and past Rittich to make it a 3-2 game just under five minutes into the second period.

Lucic gets the Gordie Howe hat trick with an assist on Jankowski’s goal — Lucic playing billiards and shooting the puck high and off of Jankowski. The Calgary Flames with another two goal lead with a 4-2 score midway into the game.

The Sharks with some pressure to end the second period — a tired Flames group, Rinaldo able to get a stick in on the Sharks cycling, dumps the puck and heads off. 4-2 Flames after 40 minutes.

Matthew Tkachuk showboating, and what a beauty it was — between the legs, power play goal. Flames up 5-2 just over a minute into the third period.

The Flames causing a flurry in front of the Sharks net — Backlund ends up being the one to score on the rebound for the Flames third PP goal of the night. The Flames victorious in a 6-2 win over the San Jose Sharks.

Final Thoughts

Not the usual suspects. The Flames third and fourth line came to play — they saw the movie ‘Jaws’, but still weren’t scared.

Sam Bennett was out sick for this game — Zac Rinaldo seeing some ice time, and capitalizing on it. Rinaldo getting a goal from the slot, much like his last goal, against the Yotes — reminiscent of the December 10th game, in which he also registered 2 points (1G,1A).

Overall, a solid team effort from a team who has some huge holes in the lineup — with both Giordano and Hamonic out with injuries.

Flame of the Game

Milan Lucic (F): He got the Flames going from the get go, with the first goal of the game. Finishing with a 3 point game (1G, 2A).
