Calgary Flames

Hi. I’m Justin.

If I'm being completely honest, I find anything auto-biographical to be a bit narcissistic; thus, I don't like writing these sort of things because I hate feeling like an ass. (That's why this is going to be short.) This principle too often transfers into the real world.

I'm a student. I also have a job. (Well, two.) Both of those things are nice.

I often have too high of an opinion of myself. Other times, I'm way too hard on myself. My emotions fluctuate far too rapidly. I need to lose some weight. I still play Pokémon. I like advanced stats a lot. My favourite player will always be Jarome Iginla. I'll always love this team, regardless of what happens to it on and off the ice.

My three favourite words at the moment are reductive, visceral and sempiternal.

Now that that stuff is out of the way, let's get a little more serious. This is something I wrote on Friday:

I will never let any benefit, privilege or opportunity compromise my integrity. Ever. I believe what I write 100%.I can understand why there may be some hesitance or doubt in regards to the objectivity of my writing-you're fully entitled to your opinion. Based on the current media atmosphere we have in the city, I expect this reaction. If you think I'm overstepping my bounds or being too protective, tell me. I want to know.

Now, I'm not going to compensate for this line of thinking by being overly negative. I'm going to write what I write, regardless of outside influence. If I'm threatened at any point, I'm going to tell the person to screw off. I'm young and idealistic enough to turn down potential benefits for what I think is right. I feel as though the media in this town needs someone like that, and I hope that's what I'll be able to provide.

I think this season is going to be fun.
