The San Jose Sharks are in town to take on the division rival (for now) Calgary Flames. The Flames have played better as of late and a win tonight would put them ahead of the Sharks, but the Sharks will still have two games in hand. Games are starting to feel more important now that a little over 3/8ths of the season has passed.

At evens, the two teams are near mirrors of each other. The Sharks lead a bit in possession and while it would seem that the Flames had a bit better puck luck, that's not entirely true as they get a higher percentage of their shots in scoring situations. Because of that, their slight advantage in P.D.O. can't be entirely contributed to puck luck.

Special teams is an entirely different beast and the Sharks rake in that category. It behooves the Flames to cut back on the penalties as much as possible because giving San Jose power plays against this penalty kill seems like a recipe for disaster. They'll need to be on their best behaviour.

Mike Smith is in net tonight for the Flames. He’ll go up against Aaron Dell for San Jose. Puck drop is at 7:05 P.M.
