Calgary Flames Jack Eichel Matthew Tkachuk

Matthew Tkachuk is no longer a member of the Calgary Flames. This time, though, the Flames got a return for giving up a 100-point player (unlike the finale to the Gaudreau saga). Calgary GM Brad Treliving may have saved his job with the return of Jonathan Huberdeau, MacKenzie Weegar, prospect Cole Schwindt and a first-round pick in 2025. In less exciting news, there is another Hockey Canada sex scandal, and this one from the 2003 World Juniors team comes with videotape.

But let’s start with the fun stuff.

Florida Hockey Now has a couple of great writers blasting out content on the blockbuster deal already.

The Panthers are ushering in a new era by adding a young star in Tkachuk — who signed an eight-year deal via the Calgary Flames  as part of the deal.

The Flames, meanwhile, are getting a great one in Huberdeau, who made his mark in South Florida.

More from the Calgary Flames side of things later.

NHL.com: Former Calgary Flames winger Johnny Gaudreau has already made an impact in Columbus. Patrik Laine’s future was uncertain with the Blue Jackets. But he took a four-year deal, and will form a fearsome top six with Gaudreau. Contract details.

TSN: A surprising twist on the NHL trade block — Columbus needed to shed a salary. They traded Oliver Bjorkstrand to the Seattle Kraken. The Calgary Flames might have been in on this if they weren’t so busy with Tkachuk.

TSN: Trigger alert. The 2003 World Juniors Team Canada is now under investigation by Hockey Canada and Halifax police for a group sex party that sounds like it did not include a willing participant. Hockey culture has got to change.
