Two More Years: Vladar Extends Contract with $4.4M Deal

The Calgary Flames have locked down what could be the best goaltending tandem in the NHL.

For at least two more years.

Backup Dan Vladar, 25, signed an extension on Thursday that keeps him in Calgary through 2025. Starting next season, he jumps to $2.2 million AAV from the $750K he’s earning this year.

Vladar has made major strides since the Flames traded for him in 2021.

He made 19 starts last year, posting a 13-6-2 record with a pair of shutouts, a .906 save percentage and 2.75 goals-against average. Vladar has started Year 2 with the Calgary Flames off with a bang. He allowed just six goals in four games (1.94 GAA) in the preseason, earning high praise from head coach Darryl Sutter.

Vladar earned the win in his first win of the season in Game 2 — against the Edmonton Oilers. The Prague, Czechia product stopped 26 of 29 shots in a the 4–3 victory over the Oilers on Oct. 15. Sutter said in Edmonton he plans to give the netminder a start every week.

Although Jacob Markstrom is set to go against the Buffalo Sabres tonight, Vladar likely won’t be waiting too long for his next opportunity.
