Flames Daily: Craig Conroy to be named Calgary GM, says NHL insider

Published

It’s the Sunday of a long weekend, we’re down to the NHL’s Final Four and Matthew Tkachuk is all the rage on the socials.
While that’s popular news in Calgary, even bigger is how loud the chorus proclaiming Craig Conroy will soon be named the Flames’ GM is becoming.

  • Reports are starting to come in Conroy will indeed be installed into the Flames’ GM chair. Maybe on Tuesday morning once holiday Monday is past, I’d wager.
  • Fan favourite Conroy has been a Flames assistant GM the last nine years under Brad Treliving, who departed the team at the end of the season. Conroy’s been in the Flames’ front office in various capacities after hanging up his skates in February 2011.
  • Tkachuk, the current Florida Panthers and former Calgary Flames darling, scored the overtime winner for the second straight game — in the first two games of the Eastern Conference final on the road in Carolina, no less.
  • Miami is enjoying a somewhat unexpected spring of sporting glory with both the Panthers and the NBA Heat leading their respective conference finals. Both teams snuck into their leagues’ playoffs as eighth seeds. ‘Just get in,’ they say…
  • All the Flames and Jonathan Huberdeau can do right now, besides resting up, is wait for the chance to prove that the trade involving him and Tkachuk wasn’t a slam-dunk win for Florida.
  • Treliving to the Maple Leafs, I’m (OK, Frank is) tellin’ ya.

Florida Panthers: Next to Tkachuk’s OT winner last night, Sasha Barkov’s goal is being sized up for framing in an art gallery.

Vegas Golden Knights: Lines and all that for tonight’s WCF Game 2.

Philadelphia Flyers: Original Ottawa Senators defenceman and current Philly associate coach Brad Shaw is rumoured to be a candidate for the Anaheim Ducks bench boss job.
