Jonathan Huberdeau has been trending thanks to the buzz created by his recent play for the Calgary Flames. Meanwhile, Alex Ovechkin is trending for his negative political ties and there's a Canadian group that has asked he be banned from crossing our border. Patrick Kane NHL trade talk is heating up, and so is Connor Bedard for Team Canada at the World Juniors.

That and more in The Daily CHN links:

It's the story we've all been waiting for. Jonathan Huberdeau has been playing some good hockey lately. Just what the Flames need.

Huberdeau was the hero in a big third-period comeback completion in Seattle.

NHL Trade Talk, News & National Hockey Now:

Sportsnet: This is pure NHL trade speculation, BUT Sportsnet dropped five teams for Patrick Kane. Four of them were Metro teams. No mention of the Calgary Flames but don't count them out in any trade talks right now.

Washington Hockey Now: The Ukrainian Canadian Congress has requested Alex Ovechkin, who has close ties to Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, not be allowed into Canada to play hockey. It's more of a political statement than anything I think would actually happen.

TSN: Wow, Connor Bedard. He tied the World Juniors record with a pair of eye-popping nights. After a bad game early, Canada is rolling.

Florida Hockey Now: How many of you left this guy off your fantasy lineup until it was too late? It was Sasha Barkov night. Back in the lineup, he popped a hat-trick as the Florida Panthers crushed Montreal.

Montreal Hockey Now: This was interesting. I haven’t seen the Rangers enough this season, but former top pick Alex Lafreniere was a healthy scratch. The NHL trade rumours perked up, and that includes the Montreal Canadiens.

Vegas Hockey Now: I think JVR fits in Pittsburgh if Philly likes a bit of what the Penguins have to offer, anyway. James van Riemsdyk is an under-the-radar target in the NHL trade chatter, but he could also fit with the Vegas Golden Knights.

San Jose Hockey Now: A heartbroken Thomas Hertl and a resurgent Erik Karlsson explained the difference between the San Jose Sharks and good teams.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: No, you don’t call him Sir, but Sidney Crosby received the high honour of being named to the Order of Canada. This is a pretty big deal. Before 1919, it would have meant the British monarch knighted Crosby.

Winnipeg: Sam Gagner played in his 1,000th career NHL game with the Winnipeg Jets Thursday.

Finally, for your review, the video of the day. Was JT Miller out of line?
