Weekly Wrap: Flames Can’t Find Ways To Win

A five-game losing streak hasn’t dampened the Calgary Flames belief in playoffs but it’s been a wild week.

There’s never a dull moment when it comes to the Calgary Flames, but many fans lead a very busy life, meaning it’s not always possible to keep up to date with every news story.

Don’t worry, we’re here to help!

Every Sunday we will recap the most exciting and relevant news stories that you may have missed throughout the week.

Monday

  • Technically this story came out on the weekend but it's too good not to include. The Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers get an outdoor Battle of Alberta next season.
  • Jonathan Huberdeau was excited about playing in front of family and friends with the Flames in Montreal to face Les Canadiens.
  • Unfortunately, that game didn't end well. The Flames fell in a shootout despite great goaltending
  • Worse than the actual loss was the fact Chris Tanev got hit in the head with a puck. A scary moment

Tuesday

  • NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman suggested the salary cap may not rise as much as anticipated. This doesn't bode well for the Flames roster

Wednesday

  • Jacob Markstrom has been a bit of a yo-yo but despite a lack of goal support, he really took his game to a new level the last 10 days or so.

Thursday

  • Not much changed against the Vancouver Canucks. Markstrom was the highlight. Goals are hard to come by. A third-straight shootout loss.
  • Brock Boeser was a late scratch in that game. And he's a guy the Flames would love to add in an NHL trade. Turns out it was illness.

Friday

  • Tanev is probably the most important Flames player. His injury really hurts.
  • Milan Lucic sat out a week as a healthy scratch. First time in a decade. He vowed never to let that happen again on his return.
  • Connor Mackey had a big night with two goals but also a costly giveaway in a brutal loss to the St. Louis Blues.

Saturday

  • As bad as a five-game losing streak sounds, the Calgary Flames are still in the thick of a playoff spot. It's not time to panic but patience is hard to come by in Calgary.
