The Daily: Flames Face Bruins Without Huberdeau, Start Vladar

Calgary Flames Dan Vladar

Jonathan Huberdeau likely a no-go again for the Calgary Flames. According to our people on the scene, the lines looked the same up front as they did in the last outing in New Jersey.

Meanwhile, the Boston Bruins are getting reinforcements. Defenceman Charlie McAvoy gets back into the lineup. My fantasy team has already been adjusted.

Ex-Bruins goalie Dan Vladar is getting the start for Calgary.

That and more NHL news, trade talk and snippets. in the CHN Daily links.

Calgary Flames

Apparently, Jonathan Huberdeau‘s foot fit into his skate this morning. But according to my friend Wes Gilbertson, the “twirl” didn’t last long. The lower-body injury was a surprise after he seemed to injure his arm in Monday’s game against the New York Islanders and was labelled day-to-day with an upper-body injury.

A lot of people are asking what’s wrong with the Calgary Flames. The answer may actually be nothing other than some slow starts for individuals who will no doubt be better down the road.

Canada Hockey Now

MTL: Montreal Canadiens rookie winger Juraj Slafkovsky has been suspended two games for a hit on Matt Luff, who needs wrist surgery after the check from behind.

MTL: The Habs are working on building an NHL trade market for their veteran players. That may include former Calgary Flames star Sean Monahan.

National Hockey Now

BOS: Yep. The Flames are in a six-game skid and now they have to worry about Charlie McAvoy‘s return. Ouch.

NYI: Thanks Elon Musk! Now you’re enabling fake NHL trades. Do we have to pay monthly for those too? A verified -or so many thought – user changed their name and profile to impersonate Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid. They used this new identity to “announce” that Calgary Flames rival McDavid had been traded to the New York Islanders.

DAL: It appears that goalie Jake Oettinger is ready to return to the lineup after missing five games.

COL: Should the Colorado Avalanche bring back former Avalanche and current St. Louis Blues center Ryan O’Reilly as a rental?

VGK: Head coach Bruce Cassidy has his new team, the Vegas Golden Knights, on an eight-game winning streak. The Calgary Flames face an uphill battle to catch them.

SJS: How Mike Grier’s first offseason as the general manager of the San Jose Sharks has translated onto the ice.

PGH: It was a lighthearted Pittsburgh Penguins locker-room after the Pens snapped a seven-game winless streak on Wednesday night against the Washington Capitals.

PHI: Philadelphia Flyers goalie Carter Hart will be back between the pipes Thursday night after missing his team’s last game with an illness.

WSH: Ironically being set on fire served as motivation and fuelled Washington Capitals forward Aaron Volpatti’s path to the NHL.

FLA: Spencer Knight made 40 saves in a 3-0 shutout for the Florida Panthers over the Carolina Hurricanes.

DET: Detroit Red Wings winger Matt Luff needs wrist surgery after being checked from behind into the boards by Juraj Slafkovsky in Detroit’s 3-2 shootout loss to Montreal Tuesday.
