Flames Daily: Huberdeau’s Big Pledge, Lucic Trade Rumours

Published

on

What a whirlwind of a month for Calgary Flames star Jonathan Huberdeau, who must be one of the most well-raised, genuine NHLers out there. He shook off the shock of a surprise trade. Committed to a team long-term based largely on the fact they made him feel wanted. Then flipped from his sports signing to a pledge to dedicate his brain to research to help veterans. Fans should enjoy getting to know Huberdeau in the coming months.

Meanwhile, there’s more than just Milan Lucic in the NHL trade rumours. Learn more in the CHN Flames Daily:

Jonathan Huberdeau pledged his brain to science to help military veterans. But the act will no doubt help future athletes, too.

Huberdeau’s contract sparked a lot of talk, too, with some debate over whether or not the Calgary Flames gave too much.

Milan Lucic has been in NHL trade rumours because of his high cap hit and low salary, but the Boston Bruins notion started as a joke.

The Calgary Flames have some decisions to make before signing MacKenzie Weegar, but it may be smart to wait.

Canada Hockey Now

Teams will need to make sure they’re not on his no-trade list, but new Montreal Canadiens forward Evgenii Dadonov could turn out to be a valuable chip on the NHL trade market at some point during the 2022-23 season.

Vancouver Hockey Now guru Rob Simpson has been studying up on the Canucks prospects. His latest feature is on Karel Plasek.

National Hockey Now

NYI: The New York Islanders had four prospects play at the World Juniors on Monday night when Canada faced Finland. Aatu Räty, Eetu Liukas, Matias Rajaniemi and Wiliam Dufour all suited up. The Calgary Flames have one prospect in the tourney, American Matt Coronato – who’s having a great time.

PGH: The Pittsburgh Penguins didn’t have a third round pick at the 2022 NHL Entry Draft and that could turn out to be problematic considering their history of success drafting in the third round.

PHI: The Philadelphia Flyers are lacking in high-end players. Is it Bust for Connor Bedard? That could be the case for a while if GM Chuck Fletcher doesn’t get busy on the NHL trade market.

WSH: Washington Capitals centre Evgeny Kuznetsov didn’t make the cut for the NHL.com top 20 centres list. We’d suggest Calgary Flames pivot and Selke finalist Elias Lindholm was a little low at No. 13.

FLA: What are the latest NHL trade and free agent rumours surrounding the Florida Panthers following the Matthew Tkachuk trade? Ask Florida Hockey Now scribe George Richards.

DET: After getting moved prior to the March 21 NHL trade deadline, some former Detroit Red Wings are now having trouble finding work on the NHL free agent market.

VGK: Will the Vegas Golden Knights hit the NHL trade market for a goalie or will they let Logan Thompson handle the starter’s workload?

SJS: Tommy Wingels, and Luca Sbisa, are joining the San Jose Sharks as development coaches.

Team Canada remained undefeated at the 2022 World Junior Championships with a 6-3 win over Finland.
