The Daily Scan: Flames had an off night, face Canadiens without Price

Calgary Flames Johnny Gaudreau and Matthew Tkachuk are two stars on a top heavy team

The Calgary Flames had an off night on Tuesday, and their top players were outplayed in a 4-1 loss to the short-bench San Jose Sharks. It happens, but now they head out on the road for seven games, playing a whole lot of hockey in a short time frame. Fortunately the travel jumps are short. They can lean on the experience of their previous eastern swing but don’t expect a sweep this time. Meanwhile, off-ice issues continue to dominate NHL news. Montreal Canadiens goalie Carey Price opened up about his stay in the NHL treatment program due to substance use. And the Pittsburgh Penguins settled lawsuits.

NHL News & Hockey Now

Montreal: The Calgary Flames are heading to Montreal but Carey Price won’t be playing anytime soon. The star goalie released a statement and discussed why he entered the NHL treatment program. Price is dealing with substance use.

Price’s Canadiens teammates applauded his courage for admitting his issues.

Sportsnet: Unfortunately, there’s another bad-news story brewing in Anaheim. GM Bob Murray has been placed on administrative leave pending the final results of an internal investigation.

Pittsburgh: The Penguins settled the lawsuit with former minor league assistant Jarrod Skalde and his wife Erin.

Vegas: The Vegas Golden Knights had an expansion fight with the Seattle Kraken. Brayden McNabb meet Brandon Tanev. Ouch.

NYI: The New York Islanders keep getting salary cap gifts. They waived Leo Komarov in August, but now he’s reporting to the KHL.

Washington: Capitals centre Evgenii Kuznetsov teased or chided the media. Maybe it was a bit of both. The Capitals are using him on the PK and he was surpised by the surprise – “I don’t know why you guys think skilled guys can’t kill penalties.”

Florida: Sasha Barkov is now the Florida Panthers all-time leading goal scorer. That didn’t take long!

Detroit: The Red Wings young guns are getting better. The consistency isn’t there yet but their good nights can be very good. They really took it to the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday night.

Colorado: Nathan MacKinnon is undergoing tests for a lower-body injury. For the Avalanche, that’s a huge concern.

Vancouver: In international news, the Chinese hockey team will compete in the Beijing Olympics. However, they may not have enough players or eligible players. Here’s the full story on the Chinese hockey team.
