Calgary Flames Chicago Blackhawks Scandal NHL Stan Bowman

There is so much more to come, but it was a sad day for hockey. The independent investigation into the Chicago Blackhawks coverup of sexual assault confirmed worse than the worst, and Chicago is cleaning house. Stan Bowman resigned as Blackhawks and Team USA GM. Meanwhile, the Calgary Flames head to Pittsburgh on a high, and there is another report of the Jack Eichel saga nearing its conclusion on the NHL trade market.

The world seems to be making it easier for people to share their serious stories without feeling judged. Let’s hope the Chicago Blackhawks scandal helps move the idea that people are more important than prizes.

Sportsnet: The fallout and the whole story of the Chicago Blackhawks scandal.

According to the independent investigation, accounts of that disturbing meeting between the 2010 Western Conference Final and Stanley Cup Final vary wildly, most notably Bowman’s account and Joel Quenneville’s account. Quenneville (coaching the Florida Panthers), Kevin Cheveldayoff (now the Winnipeg Jets GM), and others employed elsewhere in hockey will have personal meetings with commissioner Gary Bettman.

Florida Hockey Now: George Richards has video of Quenneville’s media availability this morning from ice level.

Toronto Hockey Now: Scott Cullen did a solid wrap-up of the events, including comments from reporters who played a critical role in not letting the Blackhawks story go away.

Brad Aldrich, the sexual predator who assaulted two players and later a high school player, remains on the 2010 Stanley Cup. Can’t imagine the NHL leaves it there as is. A number of names probably deserve to be scratched off.

NHL Trade Chatter, NHL & National Hockey Now:

Daily Faceoff: Frank Seravalli goes heavy on Vegas over the Calgary Flames, but also believes the NHL trade winds could push Jack Eichel out of Buffalo very soon.

For everyone’s sanity, let’s hope this gets across the finish line sooner than later.

Montreal: Jonathan Drouin spilled the beans. Shea Weber is retired, and Drouin thinks he’s headed into scouting.

Also–the Montreal Canadiens laid an egg in Seattle, just one game after finally getting a win.

NYI: It looks more and more like Ilya Sorokin is taking the net for himself and won’t share it when Semyon Varlamov returns.

San Jose: Minus Evander Kane, this young, energetic crew is becoming fun to watch. Anything can happen there. Sheng Peng looks at the three issues that could make or break the San Jose Sharks season.

Vegas: The Golden Knights wouldn’t normally look at a game against arch-nemesis Colorado Avalanche. to right the ship, but that’s what happened.

Colorado: From the other side, there’s reason to worry in Colorado. Terry Frei writes–you know when it doesn’t feel right, and this Avalanche team doesn’t feel right.

Detroit: To leave you with a positive story, Detroit Red Wings super rookie Moritz Seider wears No. 53. But it’s his choice. And guess why. Hint, it has to do with an old love bug with a personality–Herbie!
