Calgary Flames

End Of An Error

The Troy Brouwer saga is officially over.

The Calgary Flames Best #36 Of All Time's saga with the team is officially over. Today the Flames paid Troy Brouwer the final $1.5 million he's owed due to his buyout from August of 2018.

Calgary and Brouwer were never a good mix and the signing will certainly go down as one of Brad Treliving's worst. After the 2015-16 season the Flames signed Brouwer to a four year, $18 million dollar contract and the results were never there. He played in 150 regular season games for Calgary over two seasons and collected only 47 points during that time frame. As a result of those numbers Calgary and Brouwer agreed to a two year buyout that paid him $1.5 million to no longer play for the Flames.

I'm 2018 Brouwer signed a one year deal, worth $850,000 to play for the Florida Panthers and then signed a one year, two-way contract with the St. Louis Blues for the 2019 campaign.

As of today's $1.5 million dollars being paid to Brouwer the buy-out deal is over and the Flames are no longer on the hook for anything in relation to Troy Brouwer. On Brouwer's end, it wasn't a bad deal at all. On the Flames end, it was terrible.
