NHL Standings

The Flames can bask in the glow of their 3-2 victory over the Maple Leafs for about….that long because it’s back to business tonight. Calgary is in Montreal for what would have been late season jockeying for playoff position, but the Flames haven’t lived up to their end of the bargain.

The Flames victory last night snapped a four game road skid and ended, for now, a streak of nine losses in eleven games. With all that in mind Montreal isn’t exactly tearing through the North Division. The Habs are six points ahead of the Flames in fourth place and still have four games against Edmonton and Ottawa combined to make up before the season ends. Since losing back to back games to Calgary on March 12 & 13th the Canadiens have gone 6-4-2, yet Calgary’s horrific play has kept the Canadiens ahead of the Flames in the North Division standings.

No matter what happens for the final five games between these two it would take a miracle for the Flames to catch Montreal or pass them in the standings to get to the playoffs. It’s a shame the Flames fell on their faces for so much of the season, as these games could have really meant something.
