Staff Predictions & Lines: Will The Flames Break The Opening Night Curse?

There’s a new look to the Flames lineup as 2020-21 starts.

Staff Predictions

Calgary Flames @ Winnipeg Jets, 6 PM MT

Favorite: Calgary Line: -115 O/U: 5.5

Mark: Calgary Flames 3 – Winnipeg Jets 1

THE FLAMES GET OFF THE OPENING NIGHT SKID! Calgary is 1-15-1 in their last 17 opening nights, but a new goalie and a new year will treat the Flames well. A new streak begins!!!

Michael: Calgary Flames 2 – Winnipeg Jets 3 (SO)

I am a firm believer of the opening night losing streak unfortunately. I am extremely optimistic about the team’s outlook for the season, however I think this is an otherwordly force affecting the Flames on opening nights. At this point, a point in the first game of the year could be considered a win.

Maddie: Calgary Flames 3 – Winnipeg Jets 2

I’m also going with optimism to start the season! I think the Flames can break the curse! But I also don’t know that I trust them not to pull off this win with more drama than any of us need, if we’re honest. It’s gonna get weird, I can feel it.

Renu: Calgary Flames 3 – Winnipeg Jets 1

Gordie: Calgary Flames 4 – Winnipeg Jets 2

Calgary seems to have the Jets figured out recently, and they come in hungry to end a long streak.

MilhouseFirehouse: Will the Jets finally, officially, have a real rivalry since returning to Winnipeg? Between the Winter Classic and the play-in round, and having to play nine games in 2021, there might actually be some juice between these teams this year. Good goalie matchup here, could see another Winter Classic score.

Calgary Flames 1 – Winnipeg Jets 2 (Overtime)
