Some numbers you don’t have a good feel for who is the best for a multitude of reasons and #43 is one of those numbers. It’s only been worn five times with the last being in 2014 for a whopping nine games by Christopher Breen. The other four times #43 has only made it to the NHL rink 36 times and with not much success or fan fare. With that said, this is the Best Player In Flames History To Wear #X series, so we have to select someone. And that lucky someone is Ladislav Kohn.
The Czech Republic native was drafted by the Flames in the 7th round of the 1994 NHL Entry Draft. Kohn would spend parts of five season’s with the the WHL’s Swift Current Broncos and Calgary’s AHL affiliate in Saint John, occasionally cracking the Flames NHL roster.
The most games he would ever play in with Calgary was in 1994-95 when he would see pro ice five times, scoring once. The rest of his time with the Flames was spent back in the minors, playing in only 12 career games with Calgary where he would collect three total points. After his initial stint with the Flames Kohn would make stops with the Maple Leafs, Ducks, Thrashers and Red Wings before coming back to Calgary in 2002-03 to play in three NHL games.
Once getting out Calgary he had a few seasons of success in Anaheim, but his big numbers were always in the AHL (225 points in 276 games) and when he would head over seas after the 2003-04 season for 10 more years.
