Mikael Backlund Is A Good Guy

The Flames centre collected some post season hardware from the Flames today.

Mikael Backlund received some good news today as he was the recipient of the Peter Maher “Good Guy” Award. The Flames centre was honored for his all around commitment to his team and for what a solid player he is within the Flames locker room.

Two other Flames were in the running for the award, Milan Lucic and Cam Talbot, but the Flames Associate Captain took home the award and it is well deserved.

Backlund has always been a driving force for the Flames on the ice and in the locker room, someone who helps win games, but also stands up for his teammates.

On the ice it was an uneven season for Backlund (like many Flames) as he started slow with only eight points in his first 20 games. But just as the season was about to come to a grinding halt, Backlund really started to turn it on. He had points in 14 of the last 16 games of the abbreviated regular season, scoring 10 times and collecting 22 points over that span. The Swedish native would finish the 2019-20 campaign with 16 goals and 29 assists in 70 games.
