Calgary Flames 2 Vancouver Canucks 5

That’s not the way anyone imagined opening night going…..we don’t think. Calgary was just out EVERYTHING’d by Vancouver en route to their first loss of the 2018-19 season. The good news is there’s 81 more….right….that’s good news…no? Here’s the rest of the best of what wasn’t covered in our Recap or Rate The Flames.

Tidbits

-Power Play: If you hated last year’s PP, you’re gonna LOVE this season’s version….not. Vancouver couldn’t stop giving the Flames power play opportunities last night. They were in such a giving mood they gave Calgary 7 PPO and as sure as the sun rises in the morning, the Flames came up empty. 0 for %&$#ing 7.

-Firsts: Speaking of being in a giving mood, Calgary gave Elias Pettersson his first NHL goal AND his first NHL assist. Way to go Flames!

-Can’t Win ‘Em All: Calgary now drops to 0-8-1 in their last 9 season openers. Yuck. Calgary has been outscored 42-17 over that span and lost to the Canucks 3 times during the 9 game skid.

-Continuing Disturbing Trend: The Flames out shot the Canucks on the night 35-23, yet only managed 2 goals.
