The Calgary Flames head to New Jersey to take on the New Jersey Devils. The Devils surprisingly come into this one with a higher points percentage thanks in large part to tremendous special teams. The Flames are a considerably better team at even strength here and the contrasting strengths and weaknesses in this one should make for a stellar hockey game.
Ryan Lomberg is in the lineup in place of Curtis Lazar. Lazar has been atrocious since joining the Flames as one of two forwards with worse possession numbers than Troy Brouwer (the other is Tanner Glass). In theory that should be an upgrade, but Lomberg was putting up A.H.L. numbers worse than Brandon Bollig at the time of his promotion – between Brouwer, Lazar, Glass, and now Lomberg, it’s obvious that either Glen Gulutzan have an idea of what they want their ideal bottom six player to be and it’s pretty apparent that the ideal player is bad at hockey.
No changes will be made to the defense tonight. David Rittich will get the start tonight after Smith struggled in his last contest. He’ll square off against a different goalie that was pulled in his last game in Keith Kinkaid.
