Dillon Dube is quickly moving up the Calgary Flames prospect boards after a tremendous 2017-18 season. His year began with an extended stay with the Flames during training camp where he impressed and even became a dark horse roster candidate at one point.
After returning to Kelowna, he put up his best numbers of his career by far with 38 goals and 46 assists in 53 games with the Rockets. The Rockets went on to win the B.C. Division but were eliminated in the first round of the WHL playoffs.
From there Dube went to Stockton and suited up in six games for the Heat, tallying four assists and fitting in quite well during his first real extended time at a pro level.
However the unquestionable highlight of Dubeโs 2017-18 campaign was captaining Team Canada to a gold medal at the World Junior Hockey Championship in Buffalo. Over seven games, Dube scored three goals and added two assists including opening the scoring in the Gold Medal Game against Sweden.
Dube also suited up for a pair of games with Team WHL in the annual Canada-Russia Series, where he led all Canadian players in scoring with five points in two games.
As for what the future holds for Dube, itโs totally up to him. We already know heโs likely to get a long look at training camp again this year. With the Flames adding to their forward core in the offseason, he may have a tough time cracking the squad, but unlike some other prospects he could do quite well in a bottom six role. Even if he doesnโt make the team out of camp, I expect him to get a big role in Stockton and be one of the first callups this season if injuries occur.
