Flames Quiet on Opening Night of NHL Draft

Nothing from Brad Treliving and Co.

The NHL convened in Dallas for the first night of the Entry Draft and the Calgary Flames were quiet as they didnโ€™t have a pick nor make any trades to make on Friday night.

Coming into the draft it had become abundantly clear that the Flames werenโ€™t likely going to be able to move back into the first round after dealing that pick for Travis Hamonic last summer.

As for the trades, it was somewhat surprising to see almost no trading during the draft with the exception of two pick swaps as well as a player trade in the afternoon which sent Phillip Grubauer to Colorado.

The Flames had been rumored to be looking at making some moves with names like Elias Lindholm being linked to Calgary but nothing materialized on night one. In a sense it might be good that Treliving didnโ€™t try to force anything/overpay.

Iโ€™d still expect something to happen tomorrow, but at the very least weโ€™ll get to see the Flames finally pick at #105 barring any other trades.

As for other news from the first round of the draft:

We had some fun on twitter tonight as we got to just sit back and watch the draft rather than worrying about who the Flames might be picking.

And finally we ended the night with…
