Flames Falter at the Dome Again

Another rough night at the Saddledome

1st Period: Calgary Flames 1, Florida Panthers 1

After a strong opening shift by the Flames, Florida would come back up the ice Mike Matheson would beat David Rittich with a long wrister 1:09 in to make it 1-0.

A minute later Ryan Lomberg would start a fight with Michael Haley as he so often does. Iโ€™d give the edge to Haley in the fight.

Calgary would take two penalties in the middle portion of the period but the Flames penalty kill would have two solid kills to prevent Florida from extending their lead.

The Flames would get a powerplay of their own and the powerplay would stay hot (yes I just said that). Dougie Hamilton would put a great shot into the top corner from the right circle past Roberto Luongo. Hmm, again maybe having your best right handed shooter on the top powerplay is a good idea. Mark Giordano and Sean Monahan would get assists on the goal.

Both teams would get another powerplay but neither team would score with the Panthers carrying theirs over to the second. Altogether it was even period overall and the game was tied 1-1.

2nd Period: Calgary Flames 2, Florida Panthers 4

Florida would take advantage on the remaining portion of the powerplay. Rittich would first make a huge save but on the next rush Vincent Trocheck would beat Rittich with a shot that just dribbled in to make it 2-1 Florida.

Shortly after another Florida would strike with another powerplay goal after Evgeni Dadonov deflected a point shot to make it 3-1.

Then just a few minutes later the Flames failed to clear the puck and Aleksander Barkov would get the puck alone in front and beat Rittich to make it 4-1. That would be it for Rittich as Jon Gillies entered the game.

Calgary would get back into the game with a powerplay goal of their with Dougie Hamilton getting his second of the night to make it 4-2. The Flames would get some chances the rest of the period including another PP, but wouldnโ€™t be able to cut the deficit to one. (It may have been deflected by Tkachuk but not sure)

3rd Period: Calgary Flames 3, Florida Panthers 6

Florida would get two goals early in the period, both off of point shots. Matheson would get his second of the game while Jared McCann got the sixth goal.

Dougie Hamilton would get a nice finish to his night with a shot from the corner that hit a Panther and went in for his first career hat trick (pending if the other goal gets changed).

With three minutes to go Curtis Lazar would deflect one in but after a review it was deemed no goal to squash any idea of a late comeback.

Panthers win 6-3.

Dougie Hamilton (D): Hat Trick. Not much else to say here!
