Well, if you’re trying to energize the fanbase and come out with a statement game, that’s surely not the best way to do it. Thankfully Mike Smith came to play as his 42(!) saves were the only highlight from a rather lousy Flames effort. Connor McDavid roasted the Flames to the tune of 3 goals, leading Edmonton to the win. Seriously. He has the ONLY hat trick ever on opening night in Edmonton history. Sigh. On to Winnipeg. Time to Rate The Flames.
