The Calgary Flames have made a big splash at the 2017 Entry Draft by acquiring Travis Hamonic from the New York Islanders.

Calgary acquires:

Travis Hamonic

2019 or 2020 4th Round Pick

from New York Islanders for:

2018 1st Round Pick

2018 2nd Round Pick

2019 or 2020 2nd Round Pick

In Hamonic the Flames gets a defenceman with 461 games of experience and heโ€™ll only be 27 at the beginning of the upcoming season. Hamonic has three years left on a contract that pays him 3.86 million dollars per year, so heโ€™s very affordable.

This acquisition has the potential to give the Flames the best top four in the entire NHL. Doesnโ€™t this just sound amazing:

Giordano – Hamilton

Brodie – Hamonic

Kulak – Somebody Big

Calgary had to give up three high draft picks to get this deal done, but like the Dougie Hamilton trade, it could pay off. The Flames didnโ€™t have to give up a single high value prospect in this organization to get a deal done, so thatโ€™s a win but if he flounders those picks might sting.

More to come later. Wow.
