Calgary Flames
Friday Fan Poll: Brouwer Buyout
Should the Flames buyout Troy Brouwer?
With preparations for next season already beginning, itโs tough to look past what was arguably the biggest failure of this season in the signing of Troy Brouwer.
After being touted as a big game and playoff performer, Brouwer failed to even hit minimal expectations and rightly received a lot of flack from fans.
Brouwer only put up 25 points and finished the season on the fourth line. He was also the only F in our latest report card series.
With Brouwer carrying a $4.5 million cap hit for the next three seasons, buying him out is a distinct possibility. Of course he could also be drafted by the Golden Knights, but that seems unlikely after the year he had.
If the Flames were to buy him out before July 1, theyโll only be on the hook for a cap hit of $1.5 million, but that hit would last for six years. Calgary would receive savings of $3 million for the next three years before having to pay an extra $1.5 million the following three.
With that in mind, should the Calgary Flames buyout Troy Brouwer?
