He’d be a reach at #16, but is he Matthew Tkachuk Part Deux?

*These are not players we think the Flames will draft, but players that could be available when the Flames come to the podium with the 16th pick*

Jonah Gadjovich
Position: LW
Age: 18 (10/12/98)
Birthplace: Whitby, ON, CAN
Height/Weight: 6’2″, 201 lbs
Current Team: Owen Sound Attack (OHL)

Our own HockeyGoalieEh described Jonah Gadjovich as “Matthew Tkachuk lite” and size wise, he does fit the profile. Gadjovich currently plys for the Owen Sound Attack (OHL) and is heading into his 4th season with the team. In his prior three seasons he has seen his offence improve each year, while his PIM have delcined. He’s played in 60, 66 and 66 games respectively and Gadjovich has gone from 9 points his first year to 76 last season. A player of his size could look good in a calgary sweater as he could park himself in front of the net and get in the dirty areas of the ice. Here’s what Elite Prospects has to say about Gadjovich:

The downside to picking Jonah Gadjovich is he would be considered a reach at 16. He’s ranked anywhere from the mid 30’s all the way to the mid 90’s. Personally, I’m a big fan of taking a player you like, reach or not, but we know that’s not how the world works. Gadjovich will make sense for Calgary if they were to trade down to later in the first round, but he’s an appealing pick due to his ability to play the physical game and put the puck in the net.
